After a lifetime of being in sales and business development, Ed is now thinking it’s time for a change. He writes David to ask, “David, I just moved back from the UK to Dallas and have been in sales and business development all of my life. Its been a living but I love golf and would like to work in the golf business other than at a retail store. I’ll be turning 50 this year and play at 8.2 right now. What would recommend as a starting point to work in Golf?”

We are pleased to announce that three-time European Tour winner Johan Edfors, 34, has signed a deal with Cobra and will be playing Cobra equipment. Already endorsing PUMA Golf’s apparel and footwear, the European Tour veteran will be featured in future Cobra marketing campaigns, consumer and trade events.

“Johan’s performance and visibility on the course make him the perfect ambassador for Cobra Golf, and his signing demonstrates our focus and expansion in the European market,” said Bob Philion, President of COBRA-PUMA GOLF. “As a long hitter, Cobra clubs are well suited to his game. He has a bright future ahead as a professional golfer, and we’re thrilled to have him now representing Cobra.”

Known for his 300-plus-yard tee shots, Edfors will undoubtedly reap the benefits of Cobra’s exclusive 9 Point Face Technology in his Cobra driver and fairway woods. He will also use the Cobra Baffler, which provides superior distance, control and versatility with long approach shots. Edfors is also regarded as having an imaginative short game, which is why he’ll particularly benefit from playing Cobra’s Pro CB irons.

Edfors, who enjoys traveling the globe to play the European Tour, is looking forward to his endorsement role with the company. “I’m really excited to be involved now with Cobra Golf,” says Edfors. “This brand has been all about innovation, technology and performance. I chose Cobra because I’m convinced that my new Cobra clubs will help me perform better.”

The Varberg, Sweden native and former member of the University of Texas at San Antonio golf team turned pro in 1997 and spent several years playing the Challenge Tour, where he won twice in 2003 and topped its Order of Merit. In 2006, Edfors captured the European Tour’s TCL Classic, Quinn Direct British Masters and Scottish Open. Those three victories catapulted him into the Official World Golf Rankings’ top 50 in July of that year, and he finished the season in 10th place on the European Order of Merit. He had two top 10 finishes in 2007 and another five in 2008. In 2009, he won the Asian Tour’s inaugural Black Mountain Masters in Thailand. This year, Edfors has played in six European Tour events with his strongest finish to date a T8 at the Scottish Open.

Heavily influenced by their avid-golfer parents, both Edfors and his sister Christina played for the Swedish National Team as amateurs. An avid athlete with the potential to play tennis professionally, Edfors also enjoys water sports, jet skiing and music. He works hard on maintaining a fit physique and also personally hosts and organizes the annual Johan Edfors Junior Open at his home club in Sweden.

15-year-old Alexis Thompson, the youngest female golfer to turn professional, has signed an equipment, footwear and apparel endorsement deal with COBRA-PUMA Golf, making Lexi its first athlete signed under both the Cobra and PUMA Golf brands that joined forces earlier this spring.

“Lexi’s style and groundbreaking performance on the course make her the perfect Cobra and PUMA Golf representative,” said Bob Philion, President of COBRA-PUMA GOLF. “Our brands are well suited to her game right now and are poised to progress with her career in the future, while she develops as a professional golfer.”

Lexi’s youthfulness, commitment to the sport, and drive for performance makes her an ideal athlete for COBRA-PUMA GOLF. She joins the company’s current world-class roster that includes PUMA Golf’s Rickie Fowler, Johan Edfors, and Anna Nordqvist, and Cobra’s Ian Poulter, Camilo Villegas and J.B. Holmes. Lexi, however, will be the first professional representing both brands on the course. As part of this long-term partnership, she will wear PUMA Golf shoes featuring Smart Quill technology, and PUMA’s performance golf apparel. She will also play the Cobra S2 Driver (8.5°), Cobra S2 Fairway (3-wood), Baffler Rail Hybrid (2/H) and Cobra S2 Forged irons (3-PW), and will be featured in upcoming marketing campaigns, consumer and trade events.

“I am proud to represent Cobra and PUMA Golf,” she said. “Not only do both brands make great, technically advanced products that will help me play better on the course, but I’ve always loved them both for their edge and style. In my last amateur event, I played a Cobra S2 Driver and S2 Forged irons, and look forward to wearing my new PUMA gear at my first professional event in June. Most importantly, I’m looking forward to having fun and excelling on the course during my first few years as a professional golfer, with the support of COBRA-PUMA GOLF.”

Known for her independent spirit and drive for success, Lexi’s life off the course is focused around family and fun. An avid music and reality television fan, she also likes to relax by listening to music and bowling with friends.

Lexi debuts with Cobra-PUMA Golf at the 2010 LPGA ShopRite Classic in New Jersey June 18-20, followed by the 2010 Women’s U.S. Open in July.
