2008 Masters - Monday practice round

This Monday I was fortunate enough to caddy for Geoff Ogilvy at The Masters. As you might notice from the pics attached, I had a great time. It was a treat to spend some quality time with my friend as we discussed the course, our families, surfing, and about everything else than The Masters Tournament.Geoff asked me before the WGC event at Doral if I wanted to caddy, my answer was an immediate YES. Geoff told me that during The Masters he tends to be too serious during practice rounds and when the event starts on Thursday, he is emotionally fatigued. Having me out there allowed Geoff to play the course, without thinking of the tournament.
We just walked, talked and had fun. We initially started as a single, but play became backed up on the 3rd hole and Martin Kaymer, a young German golfer on the rise, joined us. The course was playing very long. Geoff hit many middle to long irons on the day and he hit the ball the best I have seen him hit it in the last year. The highlight was a 235 yard 3 iron off a hanging lie to the 13th green. It was the type of shot a Masters Champion hits. He was hitting his Cobra Speed Pro D very long, with perfect flight. He flights his Pro MB iron with a strong high trajectory and stops long irons quickly. It’s a great combination for Augusta National.
As I watch the television coverage this week, I will think about Monday and the fun we had. The Cobra Team will be well represented with Geoff, Ian, Camilo, and J.B. gunning for the green jacket.

Geoff Ogilvy-Shell Houston Open Interview
Geoff talks about his recent win at the WGC - CA Championship a few weeks ago. He also talks about his new shaft that he put in his Speed Pro D driver to help him to victory at the WGC. With the Masters coming up next week Geoff talks about how he feels about his game and who will be caddying for him during the Monday practice round.

J.B. Holmes posts powerful playoff victory at FBR Open
 With a performance that had anybody who saw the combination of long distance and accuracy searching for new superlatives, J.B. Holmes stared down the World No. 2 to capture his second FBR Open in three years.The 25-year old finished at 14-under 270, which included a birdie on the 72nd hole to force the playoff. Minutes later, Holmes birdied the 18th hole once again, this time following a 359-yard tee shot that split the fairway on the first extra hole.
Among the equipment trusted by Holmes for his success is the King Cobra 454 Comp (7.5) driver, Speed Pro 3- (13.0) and 5- (18.0) fairway metals and Pro CB (3-P) irons. While Holmes’ distance off the tee was 302.5 yards on the measured driving holes, his average drive on all holes was 316.6 yards - tops among all players. He also hit over 70 percent of the greens in regulation en route to his second career win. With a PGA TOUR-leading measured clubhead speed average approaching 125 (124.92) mph, Holmes is second in Driving Distance (312.4 yards) and third in Scoring Average (69.39). He also moved to the top of the Money List following the win with more than $1.176 million in winnings. With three consecutive made cuts and two Top 20 finishes already this season, the momentum continues for Holmes and Cobra in 2008. A powerful start for a powerful player. And business as usual for a powerful brand. |
