Victory for Poulter at the Singapore Open

November 1st, 2009

Cobra Tour staff member Ian Poulter enjoyed a wire-to-wire victory at the 2009 Singapore Open. Just days before the event, Poulter had put the new Cobra ZL driver in the bag. “It arrived last Wednesday and I left on Saturday. So I had literally two days to try it. I liked it so much I put it in the bag and now here we are with a win.”

In the bag:

Driver: ZL Driver 9.5º | “0″ setting | Fujikura 6.0 Motore Speeder X flex shaft
3 Wood: Titleist 909F D2 13.5º | Fujikura Rombax 7X07 shaft
5 Wood: Titleist 906F (18º) | Grafalloy Prolite 35X
Hybrid: Titleist 909H (19º) | Aldila NV Hybrid 85 X
Irons: Cobra Pro CB (4-7) | Dynamic Gold X100
Irons: Cobra Pro MB (8-pw) | Dynamic Gold X100
Wedges: Titleist Vokey Design (54º, 60º)

Are Ian’s pro cb lofts standard or are they weaker/stronger than standard? I understand the PW on the cobra pro cb is 46*. He doesn’t carry a gap wedge does he? I think I have only seen him with a 54* and 60*.
For the new ZL driver, will be the oban devotion or axivcore red be available as custom shafts? If I want to do an aftermarket installation of a different shaft rather than the stock, what steps will I need to follow to deal with the adapter that’s already on the stock shaft? thanks a lot!!

Anthony,

Below are Poulter’s lofts. His wedges are 54 (bent to 55) and 60 degrees.

4 iron: 24º
5 iron: 27º
6 iron: 31º
7 iron: 34º
8 iron: 39º
9 iron: 43º
PW: 47º

As for shafts, both the Oban Devotion and UST Proforce
 AXIVCore
Red shafts are available for the ZL. We are working on updating the shaft section of our website as I write this, but in the meantime, you can download a PDF of the full list of available shafts here:

http://media.cobragolf.com/download/2009-Cobra-Shafts.pdf

And finally, ordering a ZL with a custom shaft can be done at any Cobra retailer. Just let them know which ZL head and custom shaft you want, and our Custom department will put it together with the proper swing weight screw and ship it. Please note that although there are a handful of shafts that do not come up with an up-charge, most do (including the two you mention above).

Does Ian use ribbed or round grips on his clubs?
