We always recommend you visit a fitter or at least demo different clubs and shafts when you are shopping for a new driver. The flex of shaft you use varies and is best recommended in-person by a fitter. Too many variables like swing tempo and swing speed affect the type of shaft that is best for you. Here's a link to find a Cobra retailer: http://www.cobragolf.com/locator.aspx. Select "Custom Fitting" to find a fitter near you.

Francesco-
We always recommend going to a Cobra fitter to find the right shaft for you. There are too many variables to fit a shaft online - it is always best to see ball flight and discuss the feel of the shaft with a fitter to get a final recommendation. But if you have found a shaft that you like already, in general you'll probably like how that shaft performs in other clubs. You may find this link helpful when comparing shafts: http://www.cobragolf.com/drivers/shafts/default.asp.

Michael,
If you're considering the ZL Driver (or any driver), we always recommend either getting fit or demoing it - either at a retailer or at a demo day. The sound of the Speed LD cannot be changed - but if you do get a chance to demo the ZL or even the new Cobra S2 Drivers, you'll notice a very pleasing sound.

Richard-
That's great! 30-50 yards is a major increase in distance.

To answer your question, the missing piece to understanding how Adjustable Flight Technology works is the design of the hosel. The 120° rotation of the shaft alters the angle at which the hosel enters the clubhead - which in turn alters the face angle. This subtle, hidden change is what causes the three settings of AFT to be possible all while keeping the sole flat on the ground.

Ben-
There are so many variables in finding the right shaft and to fully understand what you are looking for, we would need more information. Ideally, we recommend visiting a custom fitter to find the right shaft for you.

If you'd like to see a comparison of different shafts performance and where the ZL driver stock shaft falls in the mix, click on this link: http://www.cobragolf.com/drivers/shafts/default.asp. The chart will show you how to get more/less launch or more/less spin from your shaft.

If you do order a different shaft for your ZL through a Cobra retailer, we will automatically send the correct weight that goes into your ZL driver head.

Sorry, we're not able to pinpoint the correct shaft for you - but there are just too many variables and not enough information to fit online - which is why visiting a fitter would be very beneficial for you.

The Speed Pro S is 1 degree open.

It's hard to recommend a shaft flex only using swing speeds. The tempo of a swing can also affect the ideal type of flex. It's always best to get custom fit especially if you aren't sure what flex you would require. In general, if you have a medium swing tempo your ball speed would range from 112-135 mph to fit into a regular flex shaft and 135-157 to fit into a stiff flex. These are only generalizations though - so getting fit is the best answer.

I am looking into the ZL driver,Im coming from a taylor made tour,10 deg,and reg flex shaft.I am a nine handicap and was just wondering if a stiff shaft would work for me? Can you explain your stiff vs reg shaft? Thanks

Bryan,

We can go below 45″ but in that case we cannot guarantee the swingweight. Therefore the club can not be returned if it is cut below 45″. If you still want to go with that length, we will use a 10g weight and try to get the swingweight up. There are a few shafts that may reach D3 at 44.5″ – the Aldila DVS 80, VS Proto, Grafalloy Pro Launch Platinum, Mitsubishi Diamana Blue Board / White Board, Javln M8 and UST V2 65-75-85. A heavier shaft will rarely decrease feel and often times can increase feel depending on the shaft type. But trimming the shaft does change playing characteristics. It will generally stiffen the tip section resulting in a lower launch and lower spin. It can also cause a right miss to go further right. If the shaft is tip trimmed too much it can have the opposite effect on ball flight.

And finally, yes, unless specified all shafts used in the ZL or S2 will be built to 46″.

Norm,

Have you demoed the Cobra S2 driver? We would definitely recommend you try both the ZL and S2 Cobra in stock stiff in 9.5. This will take spin off and launch won’t go below optimum levels. Anything we offer that is more tip stiff will likely help you – in our Fitting Bags, the Fujikura Motore F1 or Mitsubishi Javln M7 would be good choices.

You should be able to find local fitters and retailers that have our Fitting Bags with our locator: http://www.cobragolf.com/locator.aspx . Call around and see who has the shafts for you to try. If you get stuck, you can call our Customer Service and they will be able to help you. 800-833-3450
